Cultural Notes

  • Soil - Moist, well-drained, moderately fertile.
  • Position - Sun or partial shade
  • Cutting - Yes
  • Flowering - Summer and early autumn
  • Additional Information - Excellent as a dried flower. Prune in spring as new shoots appear. Propagate by softwood cuttings in early summer or hardwood cuttings in winter. All parts of hydrangeas can cause mild stomach upset if ingested. Contact with foliage may aggravate skin allergies. Try to use rainwater to water, since mains hard water can affect the flower colour, turning blue flowers mauve or pink. Apply a mulch to protect from excessive winter cold. Fully hardy perennial.
